Removing carpet stains and furniture stains caused by kids being kids (7 Tips)

Bathroom Cleaning Checklist | Helping Hands Cleaning Services

With children around, it can be difficult to keep your home clean. Kids are infamous for causing stains on your home’s carpeting and furniture. Instead of living with the problems, here seven tips that will provide useful advice for removing those stains.

1. Erase Juice Stains

Most kids love drinking juice. If your children spill dark-colored juices on your floor, you may feel like things will be ruined forever. However, a great tool to help get rid of this type of stain is club soda. On a fresh spill, spray some club soda over the area. Obtain a microfiber cloth so that you can blot the stain. The cloth should absorb much of this liquid. Repeat this process until your stain isn’t noticeable.

2. Treat Messy Chocolate Stains

Children love their chocolate. However, this treat can wreak havoc on your carpets and upholstered furniture when it drips. To begin removing this kind of stain, use a dull knife to scrape the excess hardened chocolate off of the material. If it is melted into your carpet, use an ice pack to harden any remaining chocolate before scraping. Use your vacuum to remove the flakes. Then, apply a solution of soapy water with a clean cloth. Make sure to begin working on the outside of the stain towards the middle. When you’re finished, blot the stained carpet until nothing remains.

3. Eliminate Mud Prints

After playing outside, it is common for your kids to drag dirt and mud all over your carpeting. Before trying to clean it up, you must allow it to dry completely. This allows you to vacuum the loosened dirt before applying a solution of soap and water. After this detergent mixture sits for 10 minutes, you can blot up the rest of the dirt.

4. Sticky Gum Gone

Kids are notorious for chewing gum and spitting it out wherever they want. Although this sticky substance may seem impossible to remove, it is possible to effectively get rid of it. First, you should peel as much gum as you can from the carpet fibers. Then, it is important to harden anything that is left behind. To do this, you should place an ice pack on top of the gum. When it is stiff, you can chip the leftover gum with a dull knife. When you are done, use a dry-solvent carpet cleaner.

5. Eliminate Blood Stains

Children often get hurt and become scraped up. Whether your son or daughter falls off of his or her bike, slides into home plate during a game, or some other mishap occurs, he or she may come home and leave behind blood on your carpeting. Removing carpet stains of this nature can be tricky. To get rid of them, place club soda on the stains. Blot them with a clean cloth until the blood disappears.

6. Take Care of Food Accidents

Kids don’t always sit at the kitchen table to eat. Sometimes, they pile their plates in front of the television and spill things on the floor. If your child drips gravy or similar fatty foods onto your carpeting, you should sprinkle baking soda onto the fresh stain and allow it to sit for a few hours. Later, you can vacuum the area and blot the stain with rubbing alcohol.

7. Crayon and Craft Stains

Kids love to color and to do crafts. If your children get carried away, there may be crayon stains on your carpet. To remove the problem, spray the area with WD-40 and work the site with a stiff brush. Wipe the carpet with paper towels to absorb the liquid. Repeat this until the stain is gone. Afterwards, you some water and dishwashing detergent to remove the WD-40.

These are common carpet stains that you may have around your house. Although the above tips will help you get rid of them, the experts at Helping Hands Cleaning Services are available to offer additional assistance so that your carpets remain fresh and clean.
